Martha Hill is an Oakland native who came to real estate over 20 years ago through a circuitous route. Having graduated from UC Berkeley as a language major, including a year abroad, she then pursued an MBA in International Management at Monterey Institute of International Studies (now Middlebury), adding a second year abroad.
After 14 years in the corporate world, including nine years in International Sports Marketing at Nike, and with four languages under her belt, Martha acted on her growing desire to chart her own future and to live and work in the one place she considered home, Oakland.
Since launching her real estate career in 2004, Martha has developed a reputation within the Oakland Hills and surrounding communities for excellence in client care. Her natural enthusiasm and energy propel her, but the backbone of her success lies in her organizational strength. The systems she applies to her business enable her to work efficiently behind the scenes. With operations running smoothly, she directs her energy toward servicing her clients through consistent communication, an eye to detail and a deep knowledge of the market. A one-on-one basis works best for Martha — she works exclusively with her clients, and they work exclusively with her.
Having grown up in Oakland and attended the public schools there, Martha’s roots are deep in the community. Knowing the neighborhoods, nooks and crannies through personal experience is one thing, but Martha’s achievement lies in continually studying property in order to stay on top of market trends. In an ever-changing market buyers and sellers are looking for an expert to guide them past the hurdles. It is her job to support them with that expertise.
There are many balls to juggle in order to successfully launch and close a transaction. Whether working with buyers or sellers, Martha switches roles smoothly as the transaction evolves: from the role of customer service person at the outset of the relationship, to becoming a negotiator and defending her clients’ position, to playing the role of project manager in bringing the deal to its conclusion. Throughout the process she emphasizes frequent communication – not only with the client but also with the other party’s agent, the lender, title company, and any service people involved in the transaction. She reviews all property inspections with her clients and ensures that they have a firm grasp on the feedback and its implications.
